over the river and through the woods.

We went camping this weekend. Real camping! Tent. Fire. S'mores. Tinfoil dinners. Rain. Wild Beast (Ellie). Parker and I love camping. We like to spend that time alone - away from everything. We thought it would be a good idea to have a little get away and camp before it gets too hot!

We received most of our camping gear as a wedding gift and have put it to good use! If you notice in the picture above, there is no rain tarp on the top of the tent. This is a little foreshadowing as to what's to come...

Because we are those people and bring our little beast everywhere we go, we had to have a bed for Ellie, too! We hoped that this would keep her from keeping us up all night. We hoped.

Parker worked on the fire to get the tinfoil dinners started and I set up the tent. We tied Ellie to a long rope which had to be untangled... a lot. I didn't wrap the dinners enough and Parker left them on the fire too long. 1 + 1 = burnt dinner. We survived and relied on s'mores to fill in the gaps our half burnt dinners had left.

Part of the fun with camping (for us) is bringing magazines and reading. That would have been a lot of fun and very relaxing, had we not brought the beast along. Any sound. A slight breeze. A rock. Barking. Lots and lots of barking.

We called it a night after the fire died down and locked the beast in her bed. 1:30 am came too soon and with the early morning hour came rain. It started as sprinkles. Parker and I rushed outside dressed in our underwear and tennis shoes (we were far from other campers... hopefully). Ellie was barking. It was raining. We were half dressed... sort of. It was a long night. We got up at 6:00 am, packed up, and headed home.

Yay for camping with the Donners and the beast!

  1. That sounds like our camping trip a few weeks back, minus the dog! It started pouring rain with lightning and thunder around 2:00am...fun times camping! I'm sure the little girl had such a fun time though!
